Ben Cabango had given the Swans a first-half lead heading home Eom Ji-Sung’s corner but a lack of cutting edge in the final third meant Williams’ side would always be hanging on in the second period.
Both sides would have chances in an entertaining game and despite the heroics of goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux the Robins would eventually breach the Swans defence in the last 15 minutes.
Jason Knight’s bullet header earning a point for the visitors, a result the Swans boss would concede was more than fair on the day.
As the Swans move onto a tricky mid-week clash against promotion-chasers Sheffield United, Williams feels his side needs to be more clinical at either end of the pitch if they are to keep up their improved recent form.
“There’s a little bit [of frustration], but that’s the least Bristol deserved today,” said Williams after the match.
“There is a lot of good defending but in terms of good chances created Bristol created more than we did, so we will have to improve at both ends.
“There is no wand so we will have to keep practicing to recreate the chances we are missing that don’t bare fruit.
“We seem to get close and then don’t create a proper chance, so we need to practice at being more comfortable in those moments.
“We didn’t lose the game, so we are pleased about that because we have got a point, and I think there are some good performances in there, but we certainly need to improve.
“It’s impossible to say we are not going in the right direction. We scored the first goal which is a huge thing in any game of football, and it could have taken us into a play-off position.
“There does need to be a lot more though. Straight up there needs to be more if we are going to be a serious Championship squad.”
