Williams thrilled with performance levels after Swans share spoils in entertaining draw with Norwich

In a back-and-forth contest between the two sides with chances a plenty at either end, it would be the Swans who would strike first to take the lead midway through the first half.

A flowing move seeing Jamie Paterson lash the ball into the roof of the net after being played in by Liam Cullen on the left-hand side.

The Swans, however, were not to be ahead long as the Canaries would hit back through Gabriel Sara’s sumptuous piledriver from 25-yards.

The Brazilian would then turn provider as the hosts would lead at the break, picking out forward Josh Sargent’s well-timed run. The American international guiding a header perfectly beyond Carl Rushworth into the corner of the Swansea net for his 16th of the season.

The Swans would start well after the break and would level the scoreline from the spot minutes after the re-start. Ronald drawing the foul from Canaries goalkeeper Angus Gunn after being played into the box by Cullen.

Up would step captain Matt Grimes on his 300th appearance for the club to dispatch the spot-kick, sending Gunn the wrong way in the process.

There would be further chances for either side with Ronald shooting inches wide, Darling floating a header around the post and Gunn pushing Jamal Lowe’s shot around the post, whilst Ben Cabango would clear Norwich substitute Sydney van Hooijdonk’s effort off the line.

The points though would be shared in East Anglia with Williams thrilled with his team’s effort.

“There is so much quality in the Norwich side so to come here and put in that level of performance was very pleasing,” said Williams.

“I think this is an opportunity for us to try and look at what the top-six looks like and see if we can compete with that, especially away from home. We have a lot of positives to take from this.

“That’s where we want to be, we want to be playing in games of that level to try and achieve something, and this was a positive in terms of looking to the future about how we can try to move forward and perform.

“We didn’t just come here to defend, to try and stop them, we were brave on the ball to get ourselves into some good positions and also showed a tremendous amount of endeavour to come away with what I thought was a deserved point.

“There were some great blocks in there and a couple of headers off the line.

“Hard work is the very least the fans deserved after coming from one country, and crossing the length of another, to support us.

“Now the target is to win the last one and send everyone into the summer feeling positive.”
