Ammanford AFC‘s Cymru Premier home game against Connah’s Quay Nomads later this month will be shown live on BBC iPlayer, one of only two fixtures named so far under a new three-year deal between the BBC and Welsh football’s governing body.
The Recreation Ground match kicks off at 12.30pm on Saturday 22 August. Anyone who cannot get through the gate will be able to watch it free, anywhere in the UK.
It is the second game on the list. The first is Barry Town United against Cardiff Met on Saturday 15 August, also at 12.30pm.
BBC Cymru Wales has committed to a minimum of 20 live Novira Cymru Premier games a season on iPlayer, running until summer 2029, with coverage and updates on BBC Sport Online.
For Ammanford, television cameras are a measure of how far the club has travelled. The Town won promotion last season to reach the top flight of Welsh football for the first time in more than 80 years.
They went into the campaign with a new Macron kit, four fresh faces and promotion hero Matty Delaney tied down for another year at the Recreation Ground.
Port Talbot’s Trefelin BGC are also in the expanded 16-club division for the first time in their history. No Tref fixture has been picked for BBC coverage yet.
The announcement lands weeks after S4C renewed its Sgorio partnership with the FAW, keeping the Cymru Premier, the women’s Adran Leagues and both Welsh Cups on free-to-air screens until 2029.
Selected Sgorio matches already appear on iPlayer. This agreement is separate, and gives the BBC its own run of live games.
Jack Sharp, the FAW’s head of domestic leagues, said the partnership was a significant step in raising the league’s profile. “I am delighted to welcome the BBC back to Welsh domestic football through this new three-year partnership,” he said.
Sharp said the governing body had doubled its free live broadcast offering compared with last season, with the FAW’s own Cymru Football TV service, which carries every fixture, sitting alongside free-to-air coverage.
More people than ever would get the chance to connect with the clubs, he said, whether they watched every match on Cymru Football TV or picked up selected games on television.
He said the BBC’s commitment would help raise awareness of the league and bring in new audiences, supporting the FAW’s wider ambition to grow the game.
Carolyn Hitt, head of sport at BBC Cymru Wales, said the deal strengthened the broadcaster’s commitment to live Welsh football. “We hope this will be welcome news to Welsh football fans as we continue to bring sport to free-to-air television,” she said.
The BBC has already said it will show Wales men’s UEFA international fixtures up to Euro 2028. The Cymru Premier season is under way, having kicked off on 31 July.
