Former Scarlets forward Turnbull retires from Rugby

Wales international Josh Turnbull has announced that he is hanging up his boots with immediate effect, ending a 17-year career in the game.

Born in Haverfordwest, 36-year-old Turnbull started his career with Llanelli in 2006 making 23 appearances for the West-Walians.

After the formation of the Welsh regions in 2007, Turnbull would go on to on to spend seven seasons at Parc-y-Scarlets where he would score five tries in 129 matches.

Equally adapt at blind-side flanker and number eight, in his time in west Wales, Turnbull would impress Wales head-coach Warren Gatland who would hand the first of his 13 international caps in a capped friendly against the Barbarians in 2012.

Turnbull, the second most appeared player in the United Rugby Championship would then move to pastures new at Cardiff in 2014, a ten year spell where he would be known for his consistency and reliance, featuring in an incredible 200 matches.

The veteran forward will now take a place in the clubs academy coaching staff.

Speaking on his retirement Turnbull said:

“It’s been a difficult decision to call time on my career, which has gone in the blink of an eye, but I am comfortable it is the right one.

“Rugby has given me so much and I am now looking forward to the next chapter in my career.”
